Team training aid workers - global

Sounds of Change was founded in 2017, with the aim of training Changemakers in using the power of music to enable social change. We train adults and young people of all ages from local partner organisations, such as schools, NGO’s, and conflict-zone community centres, so they can enhance their work in education and Psycho-Social Support (PSS) with music.

Sounds of Change trains teams from partner organisations to use the power of music in their work with young people. During the training sessions our trainees learn how to:

  • Facilitate various music-based activities

  • Design creative workshops

  • Improvise and compose music as part of a group (creative music process)

  • Integrate musical activities in other educational and PSS programmes

  • Work with the Safe & Sound intervention.

  • Physical training courses
Our on-site training courses are always 100% tailor-made to meet the needs of our partners. We generally serve two skill levels:
TOF - Training of Facilitators : individuals or team members are trained in using the power of music in their work with different target groups.
TOT - Training or Trainers: individuals or team members who are already experienced facilitators are trained to train other local facilitators themselves.

  • Online training & coaching

Sounds of Change has developed a professional online training method with an online library of musical exercises and instructional videos, which is accessible to the trainees.

This method is used if physical training is not possible (for example in a conflict zone or due to Corona measures) or simply as an introduction / top up to the onsite courses.

  • Program development

Our methodology is implementable in education and PSS programmes. We support and coach our partner organisations in the development of their own programmes, to increase creativity and trauma sensitivity.

The Sounds of Change approach

Sounds of Change uses a flexible approach to the delivery of our SoC library of exercises, games and musical activities. All of this content is included in the hybrid online manual and fits into existing PSS (Psycho Social Support) and educational programmes.
All of the content of our library has a focus on creating a safe space through music. This includes working with and without the use of spoken language, to connect different cultures and working in a rapidly changing environment.

The PSS programmes that we support with our training sessions work towards lowering stress, enabling both our trainees and the young people they work with, to connect with each other and learn something new that will enrich their lives. This recognises that both are working within the context of their social relationships and their local environment.
By fostering new relationships and strengthening existing ones, the goal is to increase their ability to actively participate within their communities.

Then came ‘Sounds of Change’, wielding music and creativity as instruments of transformation.
With unwavering determination, this initiative embarked on a mission  to breathe hope and healing into the lives of Al Hol's inhabitants. What followed was  nothing short of miraculous.”
